The Assignment

Who

Young people served by YEAH! Philly, NoMo, Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia Youth Basketball.

The plan

Bring Rhymes with Reason to four youth organizations through Joel Embiid’s In Memory of Arthur Initiative, with exclusive rewards and experiences.

The goal

Strengthen literacy, vocabulary, reading confidence, and young people’s sense of agency.

Joel Embiid created the In Memory of Arthur Initiative in tribute to his late brother. The initiative supports organizations that help young people build agency and confidence to pursue their dreams.

Together with Rhymes with Reason, IMOA identified four Philadelphia partners: YEAH! Philly, Philadelphia Youth Basketball, New Options New Opportunities (NoMo), and Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia. The music-powered program is a shared learning resource across those organizations.

NoMo has launched the online program. Educators from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia met with Rhymes with Reason founder Austin Martin at the Germantown Club, while Philadelphia Youth Basketball leadership welcomed the literacy technology.
